ABOUT US
The LIFE COOP Cortaderia Project “Stop Cortaderia + “Development & Implementation of a Transnational Alliance Against Cortaderia“, with a planned duration of 5 years, aims to promote cooperation and coordinated action for the control and containment of Cortaderia selloana in the Atlantic Arc.
The project aims to improve public and private governance to tackle the invasion effectively, and to control Cortaderia populations by protecting especially coastal areas of the Natura 2000 network and river corridors, as well as working on the confinement of the species. In addition, it will favour the transfer of scientific and technical knowledge to other biogeographical regions where Cortaderia selloana is also a problem, thanks to the Transnational Alliance.
To this end, work is being carried out in accordance with the strategic bases agreed in the Transnational Strategy against Cortaderia selloana in the Atlantic Arc, which arose from the project LIFE STOP Cortaderia (LIFE17 NAT/ES/495).
The consortium is located throughout the Atlantic Arc of Portugal, Spain and France, with 11 partners established in each of the working territories. Together they are working to reduce the presence of this invasive alien species, which is capable of colonising habitats of interest in degraded areas, especially in the coastal strip of the Atlantic Arc, where mild temperatures and high rainfall favour its development.
